Structures
A structure (Goal Post, Inverted L, Pedestal, Pipe Rack Beam, Existing Steel) carries one or more pipe supports. Pipe supports (function + hardware) are then created in the Recommendation tab and assigned to a structure.
Default for Goal Post (Portal Frame): 4. Override allowed.
Pipe CL − foundation/top-of-steel
Pipe group width + 2 × side clearance
| Component | Qty | Size |
|---|---|---|
| Vertical Post | 2 | W8x31 / HSS6x6x3/8 |
| Top Beam | 1 | W8x31 |
| Base Plate | 2 | PL 350x350x20 |
| Anchor Bolt Set | 2 | M20 (4 nos.) |
Multiple supports on a single structure require combined load verification by structural design. Preliminary sizes shown here assume one governing support; reactions from all attached supports must be summed in the final check.

A goal post or inverted L is a structure, not a pipe support type. The pipe still rests on a shoe or is restrained by a U-bolt; the structure simply carries that hardware. Pipe supports reference a structure ID — multiple supports may share one structure, but structural quantities count once.
For engineering support only. Final support design shall be reviewed and approved by a qualified piping engineer against project specifications, stress analysis, structural capacity, applicable codes (ASME B31.3, MSS SP-58/69/89/127, PFI ES-26) and client standards. This software is a decision-support tool and does not replace professional engineering judgement.
